The horses in Kota Belud are often referred to as the pony horses for the reason of their being a crossbreed between the pony and horse. I would still regard them as the pure-bred horses as they do not resemble the pony in any way . Their sizes may just about give the clue away as they are considered to be of smaller size than the normal horses you would usually see in the West.

The Bajau of Kota Belud are famed in the mastery of the horse-riding skills in the whole of Borneo. They have the flair in handling horses with the ease usually associated with the Genghis Khans (Mongolians).
