Tuaran Festival

December 4, 2009 by odysseyist

Unity in Diversity- aka Utopian Society

Another fest springs up from nowhere. Let’s face it, the Land Below the Wind will soon become known as the Land of Festivals & Carnivals & Funs & …… The more the better, I would say- then we can all spend our time having fun. Society of leisure is here sooner than you think .

Dates to look out for: 11-13 Dec., 2009

My past experiences of festivals in Sabah would suggest you pick the first or last day of the event- the last would be the best. The fest this time around builds around the theme of  Unity in Diversity, hence the name “Tuaran 1Malaysia Festival” (I know it’s a mouthful, but please bear with me).  That’s the new slogan in the slogan-obssesed land of ours, by the way. Yes, we love slogans here. No point beating about the bush about it.

With that said, I have no hesitation in recommending to you to visit Tuaran district for the festival. Plenty to see. Bajau and the Lotud people of the Dusun tribe are the major ethnic groups residing in this land of beautiful beaches & more beaches (than you can count).

Some highlights of the Fest

* Fishing and cooking competitions,

* Ethnic cultural shows,

* Local Street Market Fair (Tamu)

Programme schedule(s):  just go with the flow. We all do here.  You can throw any programme schedule out the window. They ever only exist in your vivid imagination.

One notable sight you should not miss:

On some fine sunny days the legendary Mt. Kinabalu will take your breath away. If you are without any private transport, try and get to the Ling San Temple on the outskirts of the town to unwind and watch the majestic mountain appearing on the horizon right before your eyes as if by magic-  provided the weather is fine loh.

The picture below was taken along the country-road to Impian Jadi Resort.

Tuaran Fest is the latest tourism extravaganza in Sabah. Be there or be ’round’. I wish I could join you! So I be round.

Oh yeh, don’t forget to sample the Tuaran mee. Have it dry-fried or wet- fried, whatever takes your fancy.
