Dewan Undangan Negeri Sabah
Today (16th September) is an official public holiday in Sabah. Officially, it’s the Yang di-Pertua Negeri’s (Head of State) birthday.
On this day in 1963 the Federation of Malaysia came into being. Unofficially, this day is also celebrated as Malaysia Day in Sabah. Unless and until the whole nation comes to the realisation of the [...]

Romancing Gunung Kinabalu
On a clear day the formidable sight and grandeur of  Mt. Kinabalu is staggeringly spectacular to watch. The legend of the “Widow’s Sorrow” adds an angle of dramatic Romanticism to the mountain.

Durian Town
Tawau- a town that is so proud of the King of  Fruits, Durian, they even have s street named after the fruit.
After having come back from Tawau, I am still searching in vain for a Durian Street in Kota Kinabalu. Why can’t KK town planner/council be as creative as Tawau-ians?
Durian, my kind of town!
I have [...]

A Sunset Dip
Semporna- that Divers’ Meeting Place before heading towards the Divers’ Paradise. Surprisingly, Semporna has now become kind of like an English seaside resort. But…………. everything comes to a halt after 10 pm. So, to bed we went. An early night, the first time in a long while.
What is there in Semporna, you may [...]

Legend of the Widow’s Sorrow
Mount Kinabalu is what you come to Sabah for. A World Heritage site, over-promoted and over-charged with the local residents sidelined to the periphery. Best not to over promote local sites/sights or else we, the locals, end up becoming the onlookers and by-standers instead.
More on Mount Kinabalu later on …………………

Keep the Dragon’s Tail At Bay
Kellybays, otherwise referred to as Bay of Dragon’s Tail in Chinese, has that sense of transcendental Shangrila sensational feeling to it, especailly when viewed through during the twilight hour.

Take A Walk On The Wild Side
A much neglected, under-rated & under-maintained park in Kota Kinabalu. But, in my humble opinion, it’s wild and yet still the best park in the whole of Sabah. It is, I think, the first public park in Kota Kinabalu and was built to commemorate the Royal Visit to Sabah by [...]

Likas Lagoon

Car-Spotting By the Lagoon
Now that you have finished and done with the tour of Likas Bay Park, why not just pop across the road to Likas Lagoon to do a spot of bird-watching? Whoa… whoa… whoa….. keep it down. Sorry to keep your blood pressure up. I mean bird watching of the feathery kind.

Taman Awam Teluk Likas
This is a popular picnic spot for the locals. Weekends will see the beach swamped with picnickers having a fun family day out. And of course a dip in the sea will go without saying. The beach is also one of the venues earmarked, unofficially, for the New Year celebration. On New [...]

Tamu Dongonggon- Don’t Go, And It’s Gong Gon

Midget Twin Towers And One
The Trinity Towers situated by the Karamunsing junction do look uncannily like Midgets when contrasted with other high-rises around the world. Nonetheless, they do possess aesthetic beauty and look magnificent and stunning,  aside from the flyover monstrosity that is obscuring their elegant charms & beauty.
This is an under-promoted landmark of Kota Kinabalu and [...]

The Ever Changing Kota  Kinabalu
Take a good look of the photo below, taken in Aug., 2007. The skyline now is no longer the same. In a few months’ time, a new skyline will  be shooting up- to be replaced by another new shopping mall. See the crane at the distance?  Get the idea? Next will be the [...]

The Town With A Bridge In Its Name
Tamparuli is better known for its famous suspension bridge than anything else. The town is also synonymous with the title of  a local folk song- “Sumazau Jambatan Tamparuli”- jambatan meaning the “bridge” in local lingo and Sumazau the local Kadazandusun dance. Whenever the name Tamparuli is mentioned, the [...]
