A Red Dwarf from Jamaica
A strange little plant this is. It just suddenly sprang right before my eyes. It was the first time I have ever seen such a flower (or is it a plant?) when I happened to  drop by at a local popular resort (Rasa Ria). I may have seen this plant somewhere else [...]

Flowers of Borneo- Pink Ixora

Pink’s (What) I Saw Lah!
Can’t say for sure if this species of flower is common in Sabah. But I certainly have not seen them much in the local parks (hibiscus is a sure thing- hibiscus means park over here and vice versa) nor in a private garden.

Flowers of Borneo- Yellow Bell

Build Me Up Buttercup
Not quite a buttercup but Bornean version. Yet, it still has the bells and whistles to the buttercup. One of the popular flowers in Kota Kinabalu.
Note: the heading “Flowers of Borneo” does not in any way imply native flowers of Borneo. It merely denotes they can be found here or in abundance.

On a clear day the formidable sight and grandeur of  Mt. Kinabalu is staggeringly spectacular to watch. The legend of the “Widow’s Sorrow” adds an angle of dramatic Romanticism to the mountain.

Kamikaze!
The Divine Wind
To say I was shell-shocked is to put it lightly. But stunned I truly was by the sight of the Kamikaze’s suicidal mission.
But it was fun and hilarious to watch the Kamikaze diving into the sea to catch its prey.

Legend of the Widow’s Sorrow
Mount Kinabalu is what you come to Sabah for. A World Heritage site, over-promoted and over-charged with the local residents sidelined to the periphery. Best not to over promote local sites/sights or else we, the locals, end up becoming the onlookers and by-standers instead.
More on Mount Kinabalu later on …………………

Take A Walk On The Wild Side
A much neglected, under-rated & under-maintained park in Kota Kinabalu. But, in my humble opinion, it’s wild and yet still the best park in the whole of Sabah. It is, I think, the first public park in Kota Kinabalu and was built to commemorate the Royal Visit to Sabah by [...]

Taman Awam Teluk Likas
This is a popular picnic spot for the locals. Weekends will see the beach swamped with picnickers having a fun family day out. And of course a dip in the sea will go without saying. The beach is also one of the venues earmarked, unofficially, for the New Year celebration. On New [...]

Taman Ujana Rimba Tropika
A taman (park) mostly utilised by local health freaks and joggers. This park comes alive around 4 in the afternoon. From the name of the park I am sure the initial intention was meant for another tourist attraction but perhaps the City Council lost its way somewhere along the way. Anyhow, it’s a relatively youug [...]
