Our Long Filamentous Feather Friends

The egret is one of the bird-species found in great numbers around the coasts of Sabah- North Borneo. Kota Kinabalu is home to the great egret family and they can be seen all year round, especially around the swampy areas or mangroves. From my expereince, the months of March & April see egrets gathering in greater & greater number around the city of Kota Kinabalu and they seem to have lost their inhibition from getting near to humans around this time of year.

A music concert by local artistes was also put on on the night but all the photos didn’t turn out right. As you can see from the above most of the pictures are not quite sharp. I had to stand a long way away as there were no room at the front. That also meant flashlight was of no use.

Now Comes the Pretty Local Girls

Post Sunset Ceremony

Officially, it was to be a Sunset Ceremony by the Malaysian Navy at the KK Esplanade, but the sky was already pitch dark when the ceremony took place. I wonder how the organisers arrived at the sunset time? Scientifically or by instinct?  According to my photo time info it was around 7:15pm when the lowering of the flag started- publicised time 6:30pm. The sun could  never  be seen  in KK after 7:00 pm, ever since I remembered as a child.  And here is the Sunset Ceremony in darkness.
